Etienne Dupuis appears as Rodrigue de Posa in Verdi‘s Don Carlos in a new production at the Metropolitan Opera, the theatre’s first performances of the five act French version of the piece. The opening night of David Mc Vicar’s staging is on February 28, with performances running through March 26. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts a cast which also consists of Matthew Polenzani in the title role, Sonya Yoncheva (Élisabeth de Valois), Jamie Barton (Eboli), Eric Owens (Philippe II) and John Relyea (Grand Inquisitor) in the main roles.

There will be several broadcasts: the February 28 premiere and the March 18 performance will be radio broadcast by Sirius XM and live audio streamed on https://www.metopera.org/season/radio/free-live-audio-streams/. The March 26 performance will be part of the Met’s Saturday Matinee Broadcasts series and will be screened by many international cinemas as part of the Live in HD series.

Etienne Dupuis made his role debut as Posa in the Italian version in 4 acts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2015, returning to the production in various revivals, with the last one earlier this season in December. He has also performed the role in the 5 act version in Italian at the Paris Opéra National in 2019.

The Canadian baritone returns to the Met following his 2018 house debut as Marcello in La bohème and Conte d’Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro in 2020.
