March 07, 2019
On March 7, 2019 George Gagnidze will return to the Paris Opera as Iago in Otello. The production will feature staging by Andrei Șerban and Bertrand de Billy will conduct. Roberto Alagna will sing the title role and Aleksandra Kurzak will sing Desdemona. It will be the first of eleven performances, which run through April 7, 2019.
Gagnidze returns to the Paris Opera after singing a well-received Germont (La Traviata) at the Opéra Bastille in October 2018. Additional past engagements at the house include Scarpia (Tosca), Amonasro (Aida), and Giovanni lo Sciancato (Francesca da Rimini).
As Iago, Gagnidze most recently appeared with conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the L.A. Philharmonic in a concert performance of Otello at the 2018 Hollywood Bowl, singing alongisde Russel Thomas (Otello) and Julianna di Giacomo (Desdemona). He has also appeared in the role at the Greek National Opera in Athens.
Following this production at the Opéra Bastille, he will sing Iago at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the Washington National Opera.
