June promises to be a musically rich month for Sonya Yoncheva, marked by a series of high-profile concert engagements. On June 12, she will appear at the Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, offering a recital devoted to the music of Giacomo Puccini. The program will feature arias from “Tosca”, “Madama Butterfly”, and “La bohème”, accompanied by renowned pianist Malcolm Martineau, her frequent artistic partner.
On June 21, Sonya will perform at the Wiener Konzerthaus in a Gala Concert alongside the Bohuslan Martinů Orchestra, conducted by Francesco Ivan Ciampa. The evening’s repertoire will showcase her interpretive breadth, featuring arias by Giuseppe Verdi “(Il trovatore”, “La forza del destino”), Antonín Dvořák (“Rusalka”), and Richard Wagner (“Tannhäuser”), followed by a second half devoted entirely to Puccini, with selections from “Le Villi”, “Madama Butterfly”, “La bohème”, and “Tosca”.
The Bulgarian soprano will reprise this program alongside Maestro Ciampa and the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg on June 24, and again at the Tonhalle Zürich on June 29. Between these two engagements, on June 26, Sonya will appear at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich for a Festive Ceremony marking the 150th anniversary of the Munich Opera Festival. Conducted by Stefano Montanari and featuring the Bavarian State Orchestra, the event will include her performances of Handel’s “Non disperar; chi sa?” from Giulio Cesare in Egitto, “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo, and Purcell’s “Thy Hand, Belinda…When I am laid in Earth” from Dido and Aeneas, with the participation of mezzo-soprano Avery Amereau. Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, will deliver the keynote address.
