Just days after participating in a Wagner Gala at the Teatro Real Madrid, on April 2, 2025, Gabriela Scherer will sing the role of Siegliende in Die Walküre in a concert performance of Wagner’s masterpiece at the NCPA Beijing, marking her Chinese debut. Petr Popelka conducts the Wiener Symphoniker, and Ric Furmands and Liang Li co-star as Siegmund and Hunding, respectively. The concert includes ballet music from three Verdi operas, Macbeth, Aida, and Don Carlos.
The Zurich-born soprano debuted the role of Sieglinde to rave reviews in an abridged version of Wagner’s Ring at the Schlossbergbühne Kasematten in Graz last summer.

After the successful production of the first part of Wagner’s quadruple opera “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (hereinafter referred to as “The Ring”) in August 2024, the NCPA launched the second “Ring” series, “Die Walküre” in April 2025.
As “ring” series on the highest frequency, the most popular classical music lovers, “Die Walküre” of the story of father and daughter, husband and wife, brother and sister, lovers and other multiple relationship dimensions under exquisite complex emotional entanglements, into the northern mythology under the grand narrative system, through the voice and orchestral collision, painted a hidden turbulent magic reality space. The taboo love of brother and sister turns into the sword that breaks the traditional moral shackles, and the passionate emotion of love and dedication makes the female move, against the will of the father’s authority at the penalty, and finally falls into the sleeping in the fire. The two scenes of “The Valkyrie riding” and “The father and daughter farewell between Wotan and Brunhild” are particularly classic.
