George Gagnidze returns to one of his signature roles, Verdi’s Macbeth, at the Hungarian State Opera Budapest, in a new Matthew Wild production under the musical direction of Martin Rajna, singing alongside Csilla Boross as his Lady, Krisztián Cser as Banco / Doctor, Szabolcs Brickner as Macduff, Barna Bartos as Malcolm, Lúcia Megyesi Schwartz as The Lady-in-waiting, and Bence Pataky as Macbeth’s servant. The premiere is this evening, with additional performances on February 26, 28, March 2, 5, 7, and 9.

The Georgian baritone made his debut as the villainous Scottish King at the Metropolitan Opera New York in 2012 and reprised it, always to rave reviews, at the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa, the Ópera de Las Palmas, at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, the Teatro San Carlo Naples, and, most recently, at the Teatro Comunale Bologna.
