July promises to be an exceptionally busy and varied month for Sonya Yoncheva, with four major appearances that showcase the extraordinary breadth of her artistry.
She begins on July 4 in Luxembourg with Bella Notte: Puccini & Verdi, an open-air gala concert alongside Vittorio Grigolo and the Luxembourg Philharmonic under the baton of Martin Rajna. The program features some of the best-loved arias and duets from the operas of Puccini and Verdi, arguably the two most popular Italian opera composers of all time.
On July 8, she heads to Wigmore Hall in London with her acclaimed recital Ad una Stella, joined by pianist Malcolm Martineau. A newly revised version of a program she has already brought to audiences around the world, it explores the intimate world of the Italian song through works by Puccini, Verdi, Tosti, Martucci, complemented by arias from “Tosca”, “Le Villi,” “Madama Butterfly”, and “La bohème”.
On July 14, she makes her long-awaited debut at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence with Leonardo García Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea. Their deeply personal program, Rebirth, weaves together Spanish, Italian, and English Baroque arias with traditional and popular songs, creating a musical journey through different cultures, eras, and emotions. Sonya Yoncheva was an Academician at the 2007 Festival.
She concludes the month on July 18 in Lisbon, taking part in the 70th Anniversary Gala of the Gulbenkian Foundation with the Gulbenkian Orchestra under Carlo Rizzi. The celebratory concert includes operatic highlights by Bizet, Puccini, Dvořák, and Massenet.
