SONYA YONCHEVA IN LA BOHÈME AT THE ROYAL OPERA HOUSE LONDON

January 14, 2020

On January 14, 2020, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the role of Mimì in La bohème at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in a production by Richard Jones and under the musical direction of Maestro Emmanuel Villaume, the first of a series of six performances running through January 29, 2020. She will share the stage with Charles Castronovo as Rodolfo, Andrzej Filonczyk as Marcello, Aida Garifullina as Musetta, Peter Kellner as Colline and Gyula Nagy as Schaunard. The January 29 performance will be live broadcast in cinemas throughout the world.

Sonya Yoncheva, who made her ROH debut as Musetta in La bohème in the 2012/13 season, has subsequently appeared there also as Marguerite in Faust, Antonia in Les contes d’Hoffmann and in the title roles of Norma and La traviata. Mimì is one of her most performed roles, having sung it to high acclaim for virtually all the most prestigious international opera companies, such as the Teatro alla Scala Milan, the Opéra National de Paris and the Berlin State Opera, not to mention the Metropolitan Opera, where in 2014 she made her unscheduled and extremely well received role debut on a short notice just weeks after giving birth to her first child.

After this London Bohème, Sonya Yoncheva's upcoming engagements include the title role in Médée at the Berlin State Opera, Tosca at the Vienna State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, role debuts as Puccini's Manon Lescaut at the Metropolitan Opera New York and Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala (an opera she will also perform at the Festival Radio France Montpellier), Violetta in La traviata at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the "Ad una stella" recital at the Palau de la Música Barcelona and the “Summer Hits 1600” concert at the Salzburg Festival.
