Maria José Siri makes her Rome Opera debut as Maddalena in a new production of Andrea Chénier

On Friday, April 21, 2017, Maria José Siri makes her Teatro dell'Opera of Rome debut as Maddalena di Coigny in a new mise-en-scène of Giordano's Andrea Chénier by film director Marco Bellocchio conducted by Roberto Abbado, and co-starring Gregory Kunde in the title role and Roberto Frontali as Carlo Gérard.

 

Over the years Maddalena di Coigny has become one of Maria José Siri's most performed role; opera companies where she has interpreted it include the Vienna State Opera, Teatro Regio Turin, Bregenz Festival, The National Opera in Tokyo and Kungliga Operan Stockholm. Soon she will bring it to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, too.

 

In December 2016 Maria José Siri scored a triumph in the inauguration of the season of the Teatro alla Scala as the protagonist of Madama Butterfly. Engagements after this Andrea Chénier at the Rome Opera include appearances in the same role and as Tosca at Deutsche Oper Berlin, in the title roles of Manon Lescaut at the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Madama Butterfly at the Macerata Opera Festival, Aida at the Arena of Verona and as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona.
