George Gagnidze as Carlo Gérard in Andrea Chénier at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

On May 13, 2017 George Gagnidze will return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Carlo Gérard in a John Dew production of Andrea Chénier conducted by Maestro Paolo Carignani, the first of a series of four performances running through May 25, 2017. The Georgian baritone will perform alongside Marcelo Àlvarez in the title role and Maria José Siri as Maddalena di Coigny.

 

George Gagnidze made his debut as Carlo Gérard in the production of Andrea Chénier that inaugurated the 2016/2017 season of the San Francisco Opera last fall. It was a sensation role and house debut which earned him rave reviews. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin he appeared last year in the title role of Rigoletto. Later this month he will perform another signature role at the Deutsche Oper, Scarpia in Tosca and will return in the 2017/18 season to make his role debut as Barnaba in La Gioconda.

 

Performances after his appearances in Berlin include the title role of Nabucco in a new production that will inaugurate the 2017 season of the Arena di Verona, his BBC Proms debut as Šakovlity in Hovanščina, Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Tonio in Pagliacci at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, Pagliacci and Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera and Amonasro in Aida at the Teatro Real of Madrid.
