María José Siri as Maddalena in Andrea Chénier at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

May 13, 2017

On May 13, 2017 Maria José Siri will return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Maddalena di Coigny in a John Dew production of Andrea Chénier conducted by Maestro Paolo Carignani, the first of a series of four performances running through May 25, 2017. The Uruguayan soprano will perform alongside Marcelo Àlvarez in the title role and George Gagnidze as Carlo Gérard.

Over the years Maddalena di Coigny has become one of Maria José Siri's most performed role; opera companies where she has interpreted it include the Vienna State Opera, Teatro Regio Turin, Bregenz Festival, The National Theatre in Tokyo and Kungliga Operan Stockholm. Just last month it was the vehicle for her triumphal debut at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.

She made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Tosca in May 2014 and will return to the theatre later this month in the same role and in February 2018 in the title role of Madama Butterfly, a role that earned her accolades in the inauguration of the 2016/2017 season of the Teatro alla Scala.

Performances after her appearances in Andrea Chénier and Tosca at the Deutsche Oper include the prestigious Life+ Celebration Concert at the Burgtheater of Vienna, the title roles of Manon Lescaut in Naples, Madama Butterfly in Macerata and Aida at the Arena di Verona, Verdi's Messa da Requiem at the Santander Festival and Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona.
