María José Siri as Tosca at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

May 28, 2017

On May 28, 2017, for one performance only, and immediately after her triumph as Maddalena in Andrea Chénier in the same theater, Maria José Siri will sing the title role in Tosca at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in a production by Boleslaw Barlog conducted by Ivan Repusic. Alongside her, Alexandrs Antonenko will sing the role of Mario Cavaradossi and George Gagnidze that of Scarpia.

“Floria Tosca is a singer, and so a bit of a diva and tends to indulge into histrionics in almost every situation”, says Maria José Siri about one of her most performed roles. “She is a diva, but also a woman in love: if they touch her man, she turns into a fierce woman ready to defend him.” The Uruguayan born soprano made her Deutsche Oper debut in 2014 as Tosca and has brought her acclaimed portrayal of the Roman primadonna to opera companies such as the Vienna State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Teatro Regio Torino, Teatro Massimo Palermo and The New National Theatre in Tokyo, among others.

Performances after her appearances at the Deutsche Oper include the prestigious Life+ Celebration Concert at the Burgtheater of Vienna, the title roles of Manon Lescaut in Naples, Madama Butterfly in Macerata and Aida at the Arena di Verona, Verdi's Messa da Requiem at the Santander Festival and Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona.
