Scott Hendricks in a new production of Carmen in Bregenz

The American baritone will sing Escamillo in the premiere of Kasper Holten's spectacular new production of Carmen at the Bregenz Festival.

 

On June 19, 2017 Scott Hendricks will perform Escamillo in the premiere of Kasper Holten's new production of Carmen at the Bregenz Festival conducted by Paolo Carignani, with some later performances entrusted to Jordan de Souza. Alongside him, Gaëlle Arquez will sing the title role, Daniel Johanssen that of Don José and Elena Tsallagova will be Micaëla. The July 21 performance will be telecast by the Austrian TV channel ORF 2.

 

“I can’t adequately express how thrilled I am to return to the Bregenz Festival”, says the Texan born baritone. “The ‘floating stage’ has always been a special and unique place, and I am thrilled to be a part of Kasper Holten’s vibrant, colorful and exciting production. Paolo Carignani conducts with incredible energy and sensitivity, and the cast and crew are just brilliant!”. In previous editions of the festival, Scott Hendricks scored remarkable personal successes as Il Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, Scarpia in Tosca, Carlo Gérard in Andrea Chénier, as Roderick Usher in The Fall of the House of Usher, and in the title role of King Roger.

 

Scott Hendricks’s upcoming engagements after this Carmen in Bregenz include concerts for the Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg, Jack Rance in La fanciulla del West at the Zurich Opera, his role debuts as Tonio in Pagliacci at La Monnaie Bruxelles and as Ruprecht in The Fiery Angel for his debut at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw and at the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
