PIETARI INKINEN | CONCERT | BERGEN

Pietari Inkinen will lead the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra on January 29, 2025, at the Grieghallen. The program includes Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 3 with pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason, and Unsuk Chin’s Subito con forza.

Pietari Inkinen last conducted the prestigious Norwegian ensemble in January 2024, at the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Canary Islands Music Festival.

GABRIELA SCHERER | DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER | DÜSSELDORF

After receiving rave reviews in the same production when it was first unveiled last June, Gabriela Scherer will reprise the role of Senta in Der fliegende Holländer at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dūsseldorf in the Vasily Barkhatov staging led by Harry Ogg. She will share the stage with James Rutherford in the title role, Hans-Peter König as Daland, Jussi Myllys as Erik, Katarzyna Kuncio as Mary, and Andrés Sulbarán as Steuermann. The premiere will occur on January 26, 2025, with additional performances on January 26; February 1; March 1 and 16; and April 5. Senta has become a signature role for the Swiss soprano, who sang it just last season in two new productions: one at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the other at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon and the Staatsoper Hamburg.

IRINA LUNGU | NORMA | TEATRO MASSIMO BELLINI CATANIA

Major role debut for Irina Lungu, who, on January 19, 2025, at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, will sing for the first time one of the most coveted and revered roles in the entire soprano repertoire, the protagonist of a new mise-en-scéne of Vincenzo Bellini’s Norma, the inaugural production of the 2025 season. Staged by Hugo De Ana and conducted by Leonardo Simi, Norma will also feature - in the cast headed by Irina Lungu - Aya Wakizono as Adalgisa, Antonio Poli as Pollione, and Alessio Cacciamani as Oroveso.

Just last spring, Irina Lungu received rave reviews in Catania for a Marco Tutino double bill, La Lupa” and Il Berretto a Sonagli, where she created the role of Beatrice Fiorica.

Irina Lungu’s next engagement will be another production of Norma at the Staatsoper Berlin this coming April.

PIETARI INKINEN | WAGNER: SCENES FROM THE RING | HONG KONG

On January 17 and 18, 2025, at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall, Pietari Inkinen will lead the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert entitled “Wagner: Scenes from the Ring” including music from Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, starring soprano Ricarda Merbeth and tenor Stefan Vinke.

The Finnish conductor has a particular affinity for Richard Wagner’s music. In 2023, he led the whole Ring at the Bayreuth Festival to rave reviews. Earlier in his career, he conducted the tetralogy Opera Australia in Melbourne, for which he received the Helpmann Award in 2014 and the Green Room Award for Best Opera Conductor in 2016.

ETIENNE DUPUIS | RIGOLETTO | BERLIN

Etienne Dupuis returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the title role of Rigoletto in a production by Jan Bosse and under the musical direction of Michele Spotti, alternating with Friedrich Praetorius. He will sing alongside Brenda Rae as Gilda, Andrei Danilov as Duca di Mantova, Tobias Kehrer as Sparafucile, and Stephanie Wake-Edwards as Maddalena / Giovanna. The three performances will occur on January 10, 17, and 27, 2025.

The Quebecois baritone added the role of the hunchback jester in December 2023 at the Teatro Real Madrid, reprising it last summer during the tour of Royal Opera House London in Japan, receiving accolades and rave reviews on both occasions.

Etienne Dupuis is a well-known and much-admired name at the Deutsche Oper, where he has already graced the stage as Rodrigo di Posa in Don Carlo, Eugene Onegin, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Giorgio Germont in La traviata, Renato in Un ballo in maschera, Marcello in La bohème, Silvio in Pagliacci and as Hérode in concert performances of Hérodiade, a CD recording of which has just been released on the Naxos label.

PIETARI INKINEN | NEW YEAR’S CONCERTS | LUXEMBOURG & BADEN-BADEN

On January 8, 2025, in the Grand Auditorium, Pietari Inkinen will lead the Philharmonie Luxembourg in a New Year’s concert including music by Edvard Grieg, Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Johan Strauss (fils), Emmerich Kálmán, and Leonard Bernstein, with the participation of soprano Elisabeth Teige.

The concert will be recorded by Radio 100,7 and broadcast live and on 09.04.2025.

On January 12, he will conduct the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie in another New Year’s Concert at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, which will include music by Richard Wagner, Franz Lehár, Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek und Emmerich Kálmán. Soprano Camilla Nylund and tenor Andreas Schager will also participate in the event.
