OTELLO | ERIKA GRIMALDI | LAS PALMAS

Erika Grimaldi returns to Verdi’s Otello to portray Desdemona at Opera Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in a production by Carlo Antonio De Lucia conducted by Carlo Montanaro. Performances are scheduled for March 24, 26, and 28. She joins an outstanding international cast led by Michael Fabiano in the title role and Amartuvshin Enkhbat as Iago. The cast also features Bror Magnus Tødenes as Cassio, Andrea Gens as Emilia, Jeroboám Tejera as Lodovico, David Barrera as Roderigo, Max Hochmuth as Montano, and Julián Padilla as the Herald.

Desdemona has become one of Erika Grimaldi’s defining Verdi heroines. She has previously sung the role at Teatro Regio Torino and with the National Symphony Orchestra in concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington. On that occasion, The Washington Post praised her performance, with critic Michael Andor Brodeur noting the “diamond clarity” of her singing.

The Italian soprano is no stranger to the Las Palmas audience: in 2024, she appeared there as Tosca, marking her first assumption of Puccini’s iconic role.
