SEPTEMBER EVENTS | SONYA YONCHEVA

Sonya Yoncheva launches her captivating 2025/26 season with a return to the Wiener Staatsoper, reprising the title role in Iolanta. She first headlined Evgeny Titov’s production at its premiere last February; this revival will be conducted by Timur Zangiev, with performances on September 6, 10, 13, and 16.
On September 7, the Bulgarian soprano joins an international cast of opera luminaries for the Wiener Staatsoper’s Opera Air – an open-air gala in Vienna’s Burggarten, conducted by Bertrand de Billy and broadcast on ORF III (time-shifted to 8:15 p.m.).
Later in the month, on September 21, she appears at the George Enescu International Festival with the Romanian Radio National Orchestra under Francesco Ivan Ciampa. The program features French arias from Massenet’s Le Cid, Hérodiade, and Manon, Bizet’s Carmen, and Verdi’s Don Carlos, alongside Enescu’s “Estrene de la rose” and “Du confict en douleur” from Sept chansons de Clément Marot, Op. 15.
September closes with Sonya Yoncheva returning to her most performed role, Tosca, at the Zurich Opera House in Robert Carsen’s production, conducted by Marco Armiliato. Performances take place on September 28 and October 2, 8, 11, 15, and 19.
