Etienne Dupuis makes his highly anticipated debut as Simon Boccanegra at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in a production by Vasily Barkhatov conducted by Paolo Arrivabeni. He heads a notable cast that includes Nicole Car as Amelia Grimaldi, Liang Li as Fiesco, Attilio Glaser as Gabriele Adorno, Michael Bachtadze as Paolo Albiani, Volodymyr Morozov as Pietro, Michael Dimovski as the Captain, and Lucy Baker as the Maidservant. The premiere takes place on November 7, with additional performances on November 11, 15, and 26.
The Genoese Doge is the latest addition to the impressive series of Verdi roles Etienne Dupuis has taken on in recent years, including Rigoletto, Macbeth, Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, and Don Carlo di Vargas in La forza del destino.
The Canadian baritone concludes his November at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie–Liège with his participation in a gala concert dedicated to the memory of soprano Jodie Devos, who passed away prematurely last year.
