On January 27, Étienne Dupuis sings the role of Renato in Un ballo in maschera at the Opéra National de Paris, in a production by Gilbert Deflo conducted by Speranza Scappucci. He appears alongside Matthew Polenzani as Riccardo, Anna Netrebko as Amelia, Sara Blanch as Oscar, and Elizabeth DeShong as Ulrica.
Additional performances take place on January 30 and February 2, 2026.
A long-standing favorite with audiences at the Opéra Bastille, the Canadian baritone has appeared there in a wide range of roles, including Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, Rodrigue (Don Carlos), Conte di Luna (Il trovatore), and Sancho (Don Quichotte), among others. Earlier this season, he earned rave reviews for his debut as Simon Boccanegra at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Etienne Dupuis was born in Montréal, where he completed his vocal studies at the McGill University, after which he became a member of l’Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal. When not travelling the world, Etienne lives in Paris, France, with his wife, the soprano Nicole Car, and their son Noah. Together with Nicole, he is a co-Artistic Director of ICAV, the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute. Etienne is also an Ambassador of Opera for Peace. In 2021, Etienne was given the prestigious Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres recognition by the government of France.
