Major role debut for Erika Grimaldi, who, on December 8, 2024, adds Amelia in Un ballo in maschera to her repertoire at the Opernhaus Zürich, in a new production by Adele Thomas and under the musical direction of Gianandrea Noseda. She will sing alongside Charles Castronovo as Riccardo, George Petean as Renato, Agnieszka Rehlis as Ulrica, and Katharina Konradi as Oscar in the other leading roles. Other performances will be on December 11, 14, 17, 21, 28; January 5, 10, 15, and 19. This marks the Piedmontese soprano’s stage debut at the Opernhaus Zürick. This past summer, she sang Maddalena di Coigny in highly lauded concert performances of Andrea Chénier. Amelia will be Erika Grimaldi’s 11th Verdi role, having previously sung the title role in Aida, Giovanna d’Arco and Luisa Miller, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Leonora di Vargas in La forza del destino, Desdemona in Otello, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra, Amalia ne I masnadieri, and Medora in Il corsaro.
