Cristina Pasaroiu to debut as Liù in Turandot at the Deutsche Oper Berlin

On March 3, 2018 Cristina Pasaroiu will make her role debut as Liù in Turandot at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the first of a series of three performances running through March 17. She will share the stage with Ricarda Merbeth in the title role and Stefano La Colla as Calaf.

“I am truly elated to sing my first Liù in a modern staging by Lorenzo Fioroni conducted by Maestro Vedernikov,” states the Romanian soprano. “It is my thirtieth role, and it’s been quite an intense week of rehearsals here at the Deutsche Oper. What I mostly want to bring to my Liù is a rich color palette, dramatic sense and above all to work with my pianissimos, performing all the dynamics, the pianos, pianissimos and the “messe di voce” just as indicated by Puccini. It is also crucial for me to maintain the purity and sincerity of this character in each of her phrases and intentions: with her gesture she proves to be the strongest character in the opera.” Regarding the Deutsche Oper production of Turandot Cristina Pasaroiu adds: “I’ve been having an extraordinary working relationship with Maestro Vedernikov: he never fails to anticipate my intentions and helps me to find the right phrasing and bring out my colors and ideas. I am so happy and I can’t wait to sing Liù on this stage.”

After this Deutsche Berlin Turandot, Cristina Pasaroiu’s 2017/18 season includes the title role of Massenet’s Manon at the Korea National Opera Seoul and Micaëla in Carmen at the Bregenz Festival.
