A brand new role for Erika Grimaldi! The Asti-born soprano will make her role debut as Aida at the Teatro Regio Turin on February 25, 2023, in a production by legendary film director William Friedkin and under the musical direction of Michele Gamba, the last of the five performances taking place on March 7. She will sing alongside Stefano La Colla and Gaston Rivero alternating as Radames, Silvia Beltrami/Anastasia Boldyreva as Amneris, Gevorg Hakobyan as Amonasro, Evgeny Stavinsky as Ramfis and Mirko Mimica as Il re.
Erika Grimaldi considers the Teatro Regio as her second home, having performed on that stage since the very beginning of her career; she made her debut there in 2008 as Mimì in La bohème and has since then appeared in operas such as Le nozze di Figaro, Guillaume Tell, Turandot, Otello, La donna serpente, Il matrimonio segreto, Simon Boccanegra, Così fan tutte and Carmen.
Recently the Asti born soprano has turned towards a more lyric-spinto repertoire, a process of which Aida can be rightly considered a fundamental step. This spring, she will debut two other Verdi iconic roles, Leonora di Vargas in La forza del destino at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth at the Korea National Opera Seoul.
