After three performances earlier in the season, on April 27, 2023, George Gagnidze returns to the role of Amonasro in Aida at the Metropolitan Opera for six additional shows, in the Sonya Frisell production and under the musical direction of Paolo Carignani. He will share the stage with Michelle Bradley in the title role, Marcelo Álvarez as Radames, Olesya Petrova as Amneris, and Christian Van Horn as Ramfis.

Following his highly acclaimed debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Rigoletto in 2009, the Georgian baritone has sung over 100 performances in that theater, in roles ranging from Macbeth, and Michele in Il tabarro, to Šaklovityj (Chovanščina), Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana, Tonio in Pagliacci and Amonasro in Aida, a role, this latest one, he has also presented in the most prestigious international opera house including the Teatro alla Scala Milan, the Opéra national Paris, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, and the Teatro Real Madrid.

The Georgian baritone returns to the Metropolitan Opera in the 2023/2024 season to star in the title role of Nabucco, which will also be live broadcast in HD in cinemas throughout the world.
