George Gagnidze as Amonasro in Aida at the State Opera House of Georgia

On March 4, 2017 George Gagnidze will sing Amonasro in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida at the State Opera House of Georgia, Tbilisi in a performance that will feature a stellar cast of Georgian singers. Alongside George Gagnidze as Amonasro Iano Tamar will sing the title role, Anita Rachvelishvili Amneris, George Oniani Radamès, George Andguladze Ramfis, Ramaz Chikviladze Il Re, Irina Sherazadashvili La sacerdotessa and Gocha Gabidzashvili Un messaggero. Daniel Oren will conduct. The State Opera House of Georgia will host Franco Zeffirelli’s production that premiered at the Teatro Verdi of Busseto in 2001 to commemorate the the 100th anniversary of Giuseppe Verdi’s death.

George Gagnidze is one of today’s most acclaimed and requested Verdi baritones, having sung the role of Amonasro at the Teatro alla Scala, the Metropolitan Opera New York, the Paris Opera and most recently at the San Francisco Opera, to name only a few theatres. Later this month he will return to the Metropolitan Opera in the same role.

Other future performances include Carlo Gérard in Andrea Chénier, Scarpia in Tosca and his first Barnaba in La Gioconda at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Tonio in Pagliacci and Scarpia at the Metropolitan Opera, Amonasro in Plácido Domingo’s world tour of Aida in Frankfurt and at the Teatro Real of Madrid.
