GEORGE GAGNIDZE AS SCARPIA IN TOSCA AT THE TEATRO SAN CARLO NAPLES

On January 23, 2020, George Gagnidze will sing the role of Scarpia in Tosca at the Teatro Carlo Naples, in a new production by Edoardo De Angelis and under the musical direction of Maestro Donato Renzetti, the first of a series of three performances running through January 29, 2020. He will share the stage with Monica Zanettin in the title role and Arsen Soghomonyan as Cavaradossi.

The Georgian baritone, who made his debut at the Teatro San Carlo last season as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana to rave reviews, has long made a specialty of the role of Puccini’s evil Baron, having interpreted it to constant high acclaim in virtually all the most prestigious international opera houses such as the Teatro alla Scala Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Berlin State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, not to mention the Metropolitan Opera New York, where he will reprise it this coming spring. George Gagnidze’s other upcoming engagements include the title role in Nabucco at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Iago in a gala performance of Otello at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.
