GEORGE GAGNIDZE IN HOUSE DEBUT AT TEATRO SAN CARLO IN CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA

On July 6, 2019 George Gagnidze will make his house debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, singing Alfio in Pippo Delbono’s staging of Cavalleria rusticana conducted by Juraj Valčuha. Violeta Urmana / Veronica Simeoni will sing Santuzza, Marcelo Álvarez  / Roberto Aronica Turiddu, Elena Zilio Mamma Lucia and Leyla Martinucci Lola. There will be four further performances, on July 9, 11, 13 and 14.

Praised after past performances as an “ideal Alfio,” (New York Classical Review), Gagnidze has sung the role at the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, the Wiener Staatsoper, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

Following these performances in Naples, Gagnidze’s future engagements include the same role in a spectacular open-air production at the Matera Festival later this summer (including a telecast in e.g. Italy, Germany, Spain and Switzerland), the title role in Nabucco at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Iago (Otello) at the Washington National Opera, and Scarpia (Tosca) at the Metropolitan Opera.
