GEORGE GAGNIDZE IN LA TRAVIATA IN BARCELONA

From December 4, 2020, George Gagnidze will sing the role of Giorgio Germont in La traviata at the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, in a production by David McVicar and under the musical direction of Maestros Speranza Scappucci and Daniel Montané, the first of a series of seven performances running through December 29, 2020. He will share the stage with Kristina Mkhitaryan and Lisette Oropesa in the title role and Pavol Breslik as Alfredo.

The Georgian born German naturalized baritone, who made his Liceu debut as Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Tonio in Pagliacci in the 2010/2011 season, has made a specialty of the role of Germont père, having debuted it at the Teatro alla Scala in the 2006/2007 under Lorin Maazel, and subsequently reprising it in some of the major international opera houses and festivals such as the Paris Opera, the Arena of Verona and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

George Gagnidze’s upcoming engagements include Germont in La traviata at the Teatro San Carlo Naples and Scarpia in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera New York.
