On January 17, 2019 George Gagnidze will make his role debut as Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman in a staging by Joan Anton Rechi conducted by Marco Armiliato. The Orquesta Sinfonica de Bilbao will be playing, María José Siri will sing the title role, Roberto Aronica Pinkerton and Veronica Simeoni Suzuki. There will be one repeat performance on January 19.

George Gagnidze is noted for his “exceptionally menacing Scarpia” (The New York Times) in Tosca and earlier this season made his debut in another Puccini role, Michele in Il tabarro at the Metropolitan Opera.

Later this season he will perform Iago in Otello at the Paris Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the title role of Rigoletto at the Met and Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana at the Teatro San Carlo of Naples.
