George Gagnidze will star in a one-off gala performance of Verdi’s Nabucco at the Tbilisi State Opera on February 11, 2022. Reprising his praised portrayal of the title role in a new production by Enrico Stinchelli, he will sing under the baton of Mārtiņš Ozoliņš and alongside Anastasia Boldyreva, Legi Imedashvili, Irina Sherazadishvili and Otar Jorjikia in the other main roles.
After the performance, a star with George Gagnidze’s name engraved in stone in front of the opera house will be inaugurated. The very select group of Georgian opera stars who were honored with a star in front of the theatre consists of Lado Ataneli, Paata Burchuladze, Temur Gugushvili, Medea Amiranashvili , Cisana Tatishvili and Nodar Andguladze.
Nabucco is a role George Gagnidze has performed at many of the world’s top opera stages such as the Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, Arena di Verona and the Chorégies d’Orange. Later this season, he will sing it at the Teatro Real of Madrid. Gagnidze will also bring his portrayal of the Babylonian king to the Metropolitan Opera in a future season.
