George Gagnidze to make his UK debut in Khovanshchina at the BBC Proms

On August 6, 2017 George Gagnidze will make his UK debut as Shaklovity in a semi-staged performance of Khovanshchina at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Semyon Bychkov. The performance will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 at 6pm London Time.

“I’m excited to sing in the UK for the first time”, says the Georgian baritone. “I couldn’t have wished for a better artistic environment than this performance at the BBC Proms conducted by the great Maestro Semyon Bychkov.”

George Gagnidze has already received rare reviews in the role of the Russian aristocrat faithful to the tsar, most notably at the Metropolitan Opera in 2012.

After this London Khovanshchina, the baritone sings Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and Tonio in Pagliacci at the Hamburg State Opera and the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Tonio in Pagliacci at the Metropolitan Opera, Amonasro in Aida at the Teatro alla Scala and Teatro Real Madrid, and debuts the role of Barnaba in La Gioconda at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
