IRINA LUNGU IN LA TRAVIATA IN TAORMINA

On July 30, 2020, Irina Lungu will sing Violetta in one-off concert performance of La traviata at the scenic ancient theatre of Taormina for the Taormina Arte Festival, under the baton of Maestro Fabrizio Maria Carminati leading the Orchestra of the Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania. She will share the stage with Iván Ayón-Rivas as Alfredo and Franco Vassallo as Giorgio Germont.

The Russian born soprano made her role debut as Violetta at the Teatro alla Scala in the historic Liliana Cavani production in 2007, and sang in the Tcherniakov mise-en-scène which opened the 2013/14 season of the same theatre. Serving also as her Vienna State Opera debut in 2015, Violetta is Irina Lungu’s most beloved and performed role, with about 150 performances under her belt: opera houses and festivals where she has interpreted it to unvarying unqualified success include the Arena Verona, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Opéra National Paris, Teatro Real Madrid, Deutsche Oper and Statsoper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Zurich Opera and the New National Theatre Tokyo.

Irina Lungu’s upcoming engagements include Elvira in I puritani at the Ópera de Oviedo and the Zurich Opera, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Vienna State Opera, Gilda in Rigoletto at the Berlin State Opera and the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor at the New National Theatre Tokyo.
