Two new roles for Irina Lungu, who on March 1, 2024, at the Teatro Massimo Bellini Catania appears in two operas by Marco Tutino, performing the role of Mara in La lupa and Beatrice Fiorica in Il berretto a sonagli. While the former. based on the Giovanni Verga’s short novel of the same name, was first performed at the Teatro Gran Guardia of Livorno in 1990, the latter, based on the homonymous play by Luigi Pirandello, is having its world premiere on this occasion. She will sing three additional performances on March 3, 5, and 9.
This Marco Tutino double bill represents a rare outing in contemporary opera for Irina Lungu, who has long been one of the most requested sopranos on the International scene especially known for her Verdi, Puccini and bel-canto heroines.
After Catania, Irina Lungu returns to the Teatro alla Scala for her debut as Nedda in Pagliacci, reprised her celebrated Medora in Il corsaro at the Opera Carlo Felice di Genova, makes her debut as the soprano soloist in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Nantes and Angers and sings her first Britten’s War Requiem in Stuttgart and Hamburg under Teodor Currentzis.
