In the midst of a highly acclaimed run of La traviata at the Berlin State Opera, on May 19, 2023 Irina Lungu will grace the same stage for a performance as Gilda in Rigoletto, in a production by Bartlett Sher under the musical direction of Giuseppe Mentuccia. She will sing alongside Christopher Maltman in the title role, Francesco Demuro as Duca di Mantova, Grigory Shkarupa as Sparafucile and Anna Lapkovskaja as Maddalena.

Gilda is one of Irina Lungu’s most performed roles, having sung it in some of the most prestigious theaters in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, Sydney Opera House, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale Bologna and Aix-en-Provence Festival.

This coming fall Irina Lungu is making another Verdi role debut, as Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra in Tokyo.
