On May 26, 2018 Irina Lungu will reprise the role of Violetta in La traviata at the Vienna State Opera, in a production by Jean-François Sevadier conducted by Marco Armiliato, the first of a series of three performances running through June 1, 2018. She will share the stage with Pavol Breslik as Alfredo Germont and Plácido Domingo as Giorgio Germont.
“Violetta is the role I have sung more often in my career, around 150 performances in ten years. I made my role debut at the Teatro alla Scala in the historic Liliana Cavani production in 2007, and I sang in the new Tcherniakov mise-en-scène which opened the 2013/14 season of the same theatre”, says the Russian soprano. “In addition to Milan, it served as my Vienna State Opera debut in 2015 in this very same production, and I have also performed it in many prestigious international opera houses such as the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Opéra National Paris, Teatro Real Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Zurich Opera and the New National Theatre Tokyo, to name but a few.”
After this Vienna Traviata, upcoming and future engagements for Irina Lungu include Gilda in Rigoletto for her Australian debut at the Sydney Opera House, Marguerite in Faust at the Teatro Real Madrid, the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor at Ópera de Tenerife, Violetta at the Hamburg State Opera and again at the Vienna State Opera, and Norina in Don Pasquale at the Vienna State Opera.
