IRINA LUNGU TO SING VIOLETTA IN LA TRAVIATA AT HAMBURG STATE OPERA

On March 14, 2019 Irina Lungu will return to the Hamburg State Opera as Violetta in La Traviata in the Johannes Erath production. Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli will conduct. She will be joined by colleagues Stephen Costello and Simone Piazzola as Germont, Ruzana Grigorian as Flora, Marta Swiderska as Annina, and Peter Gaillard as Gastone. There will be two further performances, on March 16 and 19.

As Violetta, Lungu made her role debut under the baton of Maestro Lorin Maazel at La Scala in 2007. Since then, she has brought the role to many of the world’s most prestigious opera stages. These include the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, the Paris Opera, the Bolshoi Theater, the Tokyo New National Theater, as well as the Hamburg State Opera, where she made her house debut as Violetta in 2016 in the very same Erath production she will appear in through March 19.

Following these performances, Lungu will sing the role at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Arena of Verona in a new Franco Zeffirelli staging. Further engagements this season include Marguerite in Faust at the Royal Opera House in London, Donna Anna in Don Giovannni in Düsseldorf, and Norina in Don Pasquale at the Vienna State Opera.
