LEONARDO CAIMI AS DON JOSÉ IN CARMEN IN LEIPZIG

On November 30, 2018 Leonardo Caimi will sing Don José in the premiere of Lindy Hume’s new staging of Carmen at the Oper Leipzig conducted by Matthias Foremny. Wallis Giunta will sing the title role, Olena Tokar Micaela, Gezim Myshketa Escamillo, Sandra Maxheimer Mercédès, Bianca Tognocchi Frasquita, Sven Hjörleifsson Remendado, Jonathan Michie Dancairo, Sejong Chang Zuniga, Franz Xaver Schlecht Moralès and Jean-Baptiste Mouret Lillas Pastia. The production will be shown seven times with repeat performances on December 15, 22 and 27; February 2 and 23 and March 23.

“This production of Carmen in Leipzig, its sets and costumes are wonderful”, says the Italian tenor. “I have worked very well with the stage director Lindy Hume and with conductor Matthias Foremny. With the latter I’ve already sung Calaf in the new staging of Turandot here in Leipzig two years ago and we blindly understand each other musically. Don José is one of my preferred roles. There are so many possibilities to interpret this part, as an actor and as a singer. It is the character which evolves most during the opera. At the begining of the piece he makes a choice, or is pushed to make his choice and from this moment on his journey begins and later ends in madness and murder.”

After this Carmen in Leipzig Leonardo Caimi will reprise the role of Calaf in Turandot at Opera Leipzig and Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Aalto-Theater in Essen.
