Maria José Siri as Madama Butterfly in Vienna

On November 21, 2017 María José Siri returns to the Vienna State Opera as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, in a production by Josef Gielen conducted by Jonathan Darlington. She will share the stage with Murat Karahan as Pinkerton, Gabriel Bermúdez as Sharpless and Zoryana Kushpler as Suzuki. There will be an additional performance on November 24, 2017.

It will be the third outing as Madama Butterfly for Ms. Siri, who inaugurated the current Vienna State Opera season on September 4, 2017 as Leonora in Il trovatore. She made her debut as Madama Butterfly to rave reviews on December 7, 2016, for the inauguration of the 2016/2017 season of the Teatro alla Scala, interpreting the rarely heard first version of the Puccini masterpiece; last summer the Uruguayan soprano sang for the first time the traditional score at the Macerata Opera Festival, once again fêted by critics and audiences alike. Next, Ms. Siri will reprise the role for a series of three performances at the Bavarian State Opera in January 2018, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin for three more performances in February and March 2018 as well as at the Hamburg State Opera for two performances in March 2018.

In addition to the above mentioned runs of Madama Butterfly, other upcoming engagements for María José Siri include a new production of Francesca da Rimini at the Teatro alla Scala, Don Carlo at the Palau de les Arts Valencia and the Teatro Comunale Bologna, and a gala concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris.
