Maria José Siri to make Swiss debut as Manon Lescaut

On March 30, 2017 Maria José Siri will make her Swiss debut, singing the title role of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut in concert at the Grand Théâtre of Génève, a guest performance of the Teatro Regio Turin conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. The cast will also feature Gregory Kunde as Des Grieux, Dalibor Jenis as Lescaut, Carlo Lepore as Geronte and Francesco Marsiglia as Edmondo.

“Manon’s personality is very different from the other Puccini heroines that are part of my repertoire and who are victims of their destiny. This character is almost searching for her doom right from the beginning, and the tragedy is that Manon isn’t aware of the fact that her actions lead to her end.” says the Uruguayan soprano. “I’m very much looking forward to making my debut in Switzerland with such a wonderful cast, the choir and orchestra of the Teatro Regio and a great conductor such as Maestro Noseda.”

Maria José Siri made her debut as Manon Lescaut in 2014 in Montevideo and later reprised the role at the Palau de les Arts of Valencia under the baton of Plácido Domingo and at the Teatro Municipal of Sao Paulo in 2015. She just interpreted the part to great acclaim at the Teatro Regio Turin with the same cast as in Génève and Maestro Noseda conducting.

In December Maria José Siri scored a triumph in another Puccini title role, Madama Butterfly for the inauguration of the 2016/2017 season of the Teatro alla Scala. Appearances after this Manon Lescaut in Génève include Maddalena in Andrea Chénier in Rome and Berlin, Tosca in Berlin, Manon Lescaut in Naples, Madama Butterfly in Macerata, Aida in Verona, Amelia in Un ballo in maschera in Barcelona and Madama Butterfly in Vienna.
