Robin Johannsen to make her French debut on a tour of Telemann’s Brockes Passion with Ensemble Pygmalion

On April 5, 2017 Robin Johannsen will make her French debut on a tour of Telemann’s Brockes Passion with Maestro Raphael Pichon and his orchestra Pygmalion. The tour, which includes seven dates, will open in Douai and will conclude at the Philharmonie de Paris on April 15, 2017.

“I’m very excited to make my debut in France on this tour of Brockes Passion with Raphael Pichon and his orchestra, Ensemble Pygmalion”, says Robin Johannsen. “We will be performing in six French cities culminating in our final concert at the Paris Philharmonie. We’ll also be giving a concert in Kraków so this tour will include my Polish debut as well! The music is beautiful, and you won’t hear this version of the Brockes Passion anywhere else. Brockes was the poet who wrote the libretto for the Passion. It was such a popular libretto, many great composers set it to music. This version has Telemann’s Brockes Passion as its base but has developed into more of a pasticcio as there pieces from Handel’s, Keiser’s, and Mattheson’s versions as well. And besides getting to sing this beautiful music, when we look out of the window in our rehearsal space in Puteaux, we can see the Eiffel Tower!”

Robin Johannsen is one of the most sough-after sopranos specializing in the Baroque repertoire, while also receiving rave reviews for her portrayal of many Mozart heroines: her highly acclaimed portrayal of Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, released by Harmonia Mundi earned her the prestigious Edison Classical Music Award, and just a few weeks ago she made her debut as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, a role she will sing in a world wide tour under the musical direction of René Jacobs.

In addition to this tour of the Telemann’s Brockes Passion, other engagements of the 2016/17 season include Rameau arias on tour with Teodor Currentzis, a new production of Purcell’s King Arthur at the Berliner Staatsoper, as well as concerts with leading Baroque orchestras such as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Concerto Köln.
