On August 15, 2017 Saimir Pirgu will be the tenor soloist in a gala performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the Arena of Verona under the musical direction of Maestro Daniel Oren. He will sing alongside Erika Grimaldi, Daniela Barcellona and Ugo Guagliardo.
“The Ninth Symphony is an absolute masterpiece”, says Saimir Pirgu. “The tenor part, albeit relatively short, presents significant vocal and musical hurdles, as the composer treats the voices as part of the instrumental thread. It is easy to understand how it is crucial to be able to rely on a phenomenal quartet for a first class rendition of this masterpiece.” When asked about his collaboration with Maestro Daniel Oren, Saimir Pirgu replies. “I have often worked with him and have the greatest esteem for him. There is so much a singer can learn from him, not least because of his deep knowledge of the mechanism of the human voice.”
After this Verona gala, Saimir Pirgu’s engagements include Alfredo in La traviata at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, his role debuts as Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro San Carlo Naples and as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Zurich Opera, Roméo in Roméo et Juliette at the Gran Theatre del Liceu Barcelona, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at the New National Theatre Tokyo, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Halle Aux Grains Toulouse and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at the Bavarian State Opera Munich.
