On May 29, 2023, Sonya Yoncheva takes part in “Hommage Daniel Barenboim”, a benefit gala concert honoring the legendary conductor and pianist, at the Großes Festspielhaus in Salzburg. The illustrious guests also include pianists Martha Argerich and Lang Lang, mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, baritone Plácido Domingo, tenor Rolando Villazón, and Maestro Zubin Mehta, who leads the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
Sonya Yoncheva and Daniel Barenboim have regularly collaborated, most notably in a 2018 new production of Cherubini’s Médée at the Berlin State Opera, which she will reprise this coming summer.
After this gala, the Bulgarian soprano will perform a Verismo concert in Baden-Baden, and will make her role debut as Madama Butterfly at the Vienna State Opera, before devoting most of the summer to the role of Tosca, which she will sing at the Arena of Verona, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Baden-Baden, Yokohama and Tokyo.
