On December 31, 2022, Sonya Yoncheva will sing the title role of Giordano’s Fedora in the Metropolitan Opera’s glamorous New Year’s Eve gala. The premiere of of this new production by David McVicar is led by Maestro Marco Armiliato. Piotr Beczala, Rosa Feola and Lucas Meachem are singing the other leading roles.

Sonya Yoncheva made her role debut as Fedora this past October in a new staging at the Teatro alla Scala and has previously starred as Stephana in the first staged performances in years of Giordano’s rarity Siberia. Later this season, Sonya will add another Giordano role at La Scala, Maddalena di Coigny in Andrea Chénier.

She has already been fêted at the Metropolitan Opera as Gilda in Rigoletto in her 2013 Met debut, Mimì in La bohème, Desdemona in Otello, Élisabeth in Don Carlos and the title roles of La traviata, Iolanta, Luisa Miller and Tosca. She also starred in The Met’s Online Recital Series and in a solo recital, as well as gala concerts. Her next part at the Met will be Norma in the spring of 2023.
