May 26, 2019

On May 26, 2019 Sonya Yoncheva will star in the Wiener Staatsoper’s Jubilee Concert as she sings the aria “Un bel dì” from Madama Butterfly. Lead by conductor Marco Armiliato, the event will be held on Herbert von Karajan Square outside of the Vienna opera house, to mark the occasion of its 150th Anniversary. The free concert will include works from a broad range of important operatic works, and Ms. Yoncheva will appear alongside colleagues Roberto Alagna, Benjamin Bernheim, Ferruccio Furlanetto, Günther Groissböck, Stephanie Houtzeel, Tomasz Konieczny, Aleksandra Kurzak, Valentina Naforniţă, Camilla Nylund, Jongmin Park , Chen Reiss, Erwin Schrott, and Nina Stemme. The concert will be broadcast on ORF III and livestreamed by the opera house.

Ms. Yoncheva returns to the Wiener Staatsoper for the Jubilee Concert having appeared there most recently singing excerpts from La traviata as Violetta in a gala concert with Placido Domingo. She made her house debut during the 2012/2013 season, as Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, and has also been heard at the opera house as Marguerite in Faust.

Following this gala performance, Ms. Yoncheva will appear at the Opéra National de Paris as the title role in Tosca, a role which she will also sing at the Wiener Staatsoper next season, in March 2020.
