SONYA YONCHEVA | RECITAL | METROPOLITAN OPERA

On January 23, Sonya Yoncheva will join a very select group of opera superstars who have appeared in recital on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera.

Accompanied by pianist Malcolm Martineau, Sonya will present her program Ad una Stella, which she has already sung at several prestigious venues around the world, among them the Teatro Real of Madrid, the Salle Gaveau of Paris, the Munich Opera Festival, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia, the Théâtre du Capitole of Toulouse, the Monte-Carlo Opéra and the Enescu Festival in Bucharest. The program includes music by Verdi, Puccini, Duparc and Chausson, among others.

Sonya Yoncheva made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2013 as Gilda in Rigoletto and has since then returned to this stage in six other roles, among them four debuts, as Mimì in La bohème, Desdemona in Otello (new production) and in the title roles of Luisa Miller and Tosca (new staging). In the 2017/18 season, she wrote Met history as the first singer to appear in the same season in three leading roles in Live in HD Broadcasts. Sonya will sing also sing Élisabeth de Valois in a new production of Don Carlos at the Met later this season.
