Sonya Yoncheva reprised her much-lauded portrayal of Tosca at the Wiener Staatsoper on February 9, 12, 15, and 17, 2025, in the historic Margarethe Wallman production under the musical direction of Pier Giorgio Morandi. She will share the stage with Piotr Beczała as Mario Cavaradossi and Ambrogio Maestri as Barone Scarpia in the other leading roles.

Since her 2017 role debut at the Metropolitan Opera, Tosca has become one of Sonya Yoncheva’s most performed parts. She has sung it in numerous international venues, including the Staatsoper Berlin, the Arena Verona, Baden-Baden, the Zurich Opera, the Gstaad Festival, and with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma on tour in Japan, not to mention the Wiener Staatsoper, where she last appeared as the Roman diva in 2011, prompting such glorious reviews as the one published on the Kürier (“During”Vissi d’arte” she shows the vulnerability of someone who is driven into the corner and sings enchantingly beautiful”).

Vienna opera lovers will not have to wait very long to fête Sonya Yoncheva again, as she will grace the Wiener Staatsoper stage as the heroine of “Iolanta” on March 24, 27, and 31.
