A new role for George Gagnidze! The Georgian baritone makes his debut as the High Priest of Dagon (Grand-Prêtre de Dagon) in Samson et Dalila at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin on February 12, 2023. The production is by Damian Szifron and Thomas Guggeis conducts. He will sing alongside Brian Jagde as Samson, Elīna Garanča as Dalila, and Grigory Shkarupa as Abimelech. There will be two additional performances on February 15 and 18.

The Georgian baritone, whose previous appearances at the Staatsoper Berlin include Scarpia in Tosca and Amonasro in Aida is at his role debut, returning to the French repertoire after a long hiatus, his last part being the titular hero of Guillaume Tell in Weimar in 2008. His next German engagements will be the title role of Rigoletto at the Staatsoper Hamburg and his role debut as Manfredo in Mercadante’s Il giuramento in concert at the Klangvokal Festival Dortmund.
