On December 15, 2023, Irina Lungu will sings the role of Mimì in La bohème at the Staatsoper Berlin in a production by Lindy Hume and under the musical direction of Massimo Zanetti. She will share the stage with Freddie De Tommaso as Rodolfo, George Petean as Marcello, Victoria Randem as Musetta, Gyula Orendt as Schaunard, and Grigory Shkarupa as Colline. There will be five additional performances on December 17, 20, 23, 25 and 28.

Irina Lungu made her role debut as Mimì in 2015 in Moscow, later reprising the character at the Vienna State Opera, Teatro San Carlo Naples, Teatro Regio Turin, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and Royal Opera House Muscat, not to mention the Teatro alla Scala, where, just this past spring, she made headlines as the first soprano in the history of that prestigious theater to sing both Mimì and Musetta in the same season.

The Russian-born is a well-known and much-admired name by the Staatsoper Berlin audience, who just this past season applauded her portrayals of Violetta in La traviata and Gilda in Rigoletto.
