On March 19, 2019 Saimir Pirgu will sing the title role in Werther at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, in a production by Nicolas Joel under the musical direction of Maestro Paul Daniel. It will be the first of four performances, which run through March 26, 2019. Pirgu will share the stage with Mihoko Fujimura as Charlotte, Hiroshi Kuroda as Albert and Hiroko Kouda as Sophie.

After this Tokyo Werther, Saimir Pirgu’s future engagements include Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Nemorino in L’Elisir d’Amore at the Vienna State Opera, the title role in La Damnation de Faust at the Birmingham Symphony, Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Los Angeles Opera and the Vienna State Opera, Don José in Carmen at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and his debut as Gounod’s Faust for Opera Australia in Melbourne.
