On August 29, 2020, Sonya Yoncheva will take part in the gala concert “Opera e Passione” at the Arena di Verona, an event which will close the festival’s 2020 season. She will sing alongside soprano Mihaela Marcu, tenor Vittorio Grigolo and baritone Davide Luciano, performing music from Roméo et Juliette, Tosca and La bohème, and Manon, under the baton of Plácido Domingo.
The Bulgarian soprano, who made her Arena Festival debut in 2013 in the occasion of a Verdi gala, will return to Verona next summer as Violetta in La traviata, and will also make her much awaited role debut as Aida conducted by Riccardo Muti as a celebration of the 150th anniversary of Verdi’s immortal masterpiece.
Sonya Yoncheva’s other upcoming engagements include her role debuts as Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Bavarian State Opera, as Elsa in Lohengrin at the Berlin State Opera, as Dvořák’s Rusalka and Leonora in Il trovatore at the Metropolitan Opera and as Stephana in Siberia at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino; Tosca at the Vienna State Opera as well as concerts and recitals in Antwerp, Berlin, Künzelsau, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Paris, Baden-Baden, Munich.
