ÉTIENNE DUPUIS | CARMEN | PARIS

On February 22 and 24, 2023, Étienne Dupuis will sing the role of Escamillo in Carmen at the Opéra National de Paris, in a production by Calixto Bieito and under the musical direction of Fabien Gabel. He will share the stage with Clémentine Margaine in the title role, Joseph Calleja as Don José, and Nicole Car as Micaëla.

Étienne Dupuis is returning to the role of Escamillo after a long hiatus, having interpreted it in his native Canada at the beginning of his career. The Montreal-born baritone has already performed for the Opéra National de Paris in the title role of Don Giovanni, as Pelléas in Pelléas et Melisande, as Oreste in Iphigénie en Tauride and, last but not least, very recently received rave reviews as the Conte di Luna in Il trovatore. His next engagement in a French opera is as Herode in two concert performances of Massenet’s Hérodiade at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, a part he sang with enormous success this past fall in Lyon and Paris.
