Following his appearances as Scarpia in Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera’s December 2021 run, George Gagnidze is back at the Met for six more performances as the villainous chief of police from January 8 to 29, 2022.
Under the baton of Carlo Rizzi, the dramatic baritone shares the stage with Elena Stikhina and Joseph Calleja as the other main characters.
At the December 2021 run, George Gagnidze was lauded by the New York Times for “conveying the character’s malevolence but also his aristocratic disdain” and by Opera News for being “always fully committed to the character, singing it with the perfect combination of snarl, beauty and finesse”. After this January run, Gagnidze will have more than 35 Met performances in the role under his belt.
