On November 15, 2023, Irina Lungu adds a new role to her repertoire, Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra, at the New National Theatre Tokyo, in a new production by Pierre Audi and under the musical direction of Ono Kazushi, the first of a series of five performances running through November 26, 2023. She will sing alongside Roberto Frontali in the title role, Luciano Ganci as Gabriele Adorno, Riccardo Zanellato as Jacopo Fiesco and Simone Alberghini as Paolo.

Irina Lungu has already been feted at the New National Theatre as Violetta in La traviata and in the eponymous heroine of Lucia di Lammermoor.

Other engagements of the 2023/2024 season include her role debut as Nedda in Pagliacci at the Teatro alla Scala; Fiorilla in Il turco in Italia for her house debut at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires; Medora in Il corsaro at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Mara in La lupa and Signora Beatrice Fiorica in Il berretto a sonagli at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania. On the concert platform, Irina Lungu appears as the soprano soloist of Britten’s War Requiem on a tour with Teodor Currentzis and MusicAeterna with stops in Stuttgart, Dortmund and the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, among others.
